Hawaii Gets DIRECTV

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 2000--DIRECTV, Inc. announced today that it is launching its DIRECTV® digital home entertainment service -- featuring specially designed programming packages -- for Hawaii beginning Friday, Sept. 15.

Hawaii residents will have a choice of four new DIRECTV® programming packages with access to more than 110 channels of digital entertainment programming including Spanish-language and premium movie services, as well as a variety of pay per view channels.

The new service will feature HAWAII CHOICE PLUS(TM) programming package at $21.99 per month, featuring more than 44 programming services, plus two STARZ!® channels; and a bilingual service, OPCION HAWAII PLUS(TM) at $23.99 per month that offers more than 44 networks, two STARZ! and more than 20 Spanish-language channels. Other programming packages are: HAWAII CHOICE(TM), offering more than 44 channels at $19.99 monthly; and OPCION HAWAII(TM), featuring more than 44 channels and more than 20 Spanish-language channels at $21.99 monthly.

The new packages feature many of the popular services offered in the DIRECTV® TOTAL CHOICE® programming packages and customers may also order up to 19 premium movie channels from HBO® and SHOWTIME® on an a la carte basis. OPCION HAWAII(TM) consumers will receive the best of the DIRECTV PARA TODOS(TM) service's Spanish-language channels including Cine Latino, CNN en Espanol, Canal Sur, TV Chile, TELEMUNDO, PUMA TV, MTV S and Univision West.

"More than 8.7 million households in the U.S. have selected DIRECTV for their home entertainment and we are pleased to bring Hawaii into the DIRECTV family and to now offer DIRECTV® programming to all 50 states,'' said Stephanie Campbell, senior vice president of Programming for DIRECTV, Inc.

English-language programming for Hawaii will be broadcast from the DIRECTV primary orbital slot at 101 degrees. However, due to limits in signal coverage of Hawaii from that orbital location, consumers will not initially have access to the full DIRECTV programming service and will need an oval, 39x29-inch dish to receive the signal. Customers will have access to all Spanish-language programming from the 119-degree slot via an 18-inch dish. Both dishes are required to receive the bilingual services.
