DIRECTV Adds WGN to Chicago Local Channels

El Segundo, CA, Aug 10, 2000 --  DIRECTV, Inc. announced today that it will add WGN (WB) to its local channel lineup in the Chicago designated market area (DMA).

WGN will be available to Chicago DIRECTV customers subscribing to the local channel package starting Friday, August 11. Local channel service in the Chicago DMA began in December 1999.

With the addition of WGN, DIRECTV customers in the Chicago DMA will now receive the following local channels via satellite:

  • WLS (ABC)
  • WBBM (CBS)
  • WMAQ (NBC)
  • WFLD (FOX)
  • WGN (WB)

DIRECTV customers can subscribe to their local channel package for $5.99 per month. In addition to local broadcast network channels, a national PBS feed is included in each local channel package at no additional charge.

Local channels are delivered to DIRECTV customers in Chicago from DIRECTV's primary orbital slot at 101 degrees West Longitude. DIRECTV customers can receive their local channels as well as DIRECTV's current lineup of national digital entertainment and information programming through their existing set-top box and 18-inch antenna.
