San Francisco and Nashville Stations Refuse Agreement with DISH

LITTLETON, Colo. (dishnetwork.com) -- March, 31, 2001 -- The NBC station in San Francisco, KRON-TV, and the ABC station in Nashville, WKRN-TV, are refusing to allow DISH Network to provide their channels on reasonable terms. In compliance with the law, we [Dish Network] have done everything we can to reach retransmission agreements with these stations. Still, these two TV stations have refused to sign an agreement with DISH Network on reasonable terms. As a result, these two stations in the markets above are unavailable at this time.

DISH Network sincerely apologizes for this inconvenience. Please note, these channels will automatically be turned back on, as soon as, each respective TV station allows us to do so. Customers impacted will NOT be charged for their network channel while their local TV stations keep their channel from them. In addition, DISH Network is offering a free antenna (with discounted professional installation) to customers whose local TV stations have refused to provide them ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX network programming.

DISH Network will continue to fight for the rights of our customers. Our customers deserve the most for their money and should not be harmed by these local TV stations' greed for more money.

SAN FRANCISCO
DISH Network Response to KRON-TV (Channel 4, San Francisco)
DISH Network is working day and night to return your NBC network to you. Young Broadcasting, the New York based owner of KRON 4, is forcing DISH Network to shut off its San Francisco customers so that it can obtain an unreasonable rate for a Los Angeles station that it also owns. By doing so, we [Dish Network] believe that KRON 4’s owners are violating federal law and we intend to file the appropriate complaint at the Federal Communications Commission. DISH Network just wants to give you your local programming back and provide you your local channels at the lowest possible price. If we submit to the terms forced upon us to date for the Los Angeles station, it will only cause us to raise our prices to innocent customers in San Francisco.

Call Craig Marrs, General Manager of KRON-TV at (415) 441-4444 or E-Mail: 4listens@kron.com and insist he return your local channel.

Continue to voice your opinion about the broadcasters’ refusal to provide your network programming by calling the individuals listed below. Call the General Manager and Chief Negotiator for KRON-TV. Also, call local and national advertisers that pay these stations to carry their ads. Remind them that these local stations are preventing their viewers from watching their advertisements.
